Exciting Opportunities Already Underway
In Nelson, E4E is already working with a number of partnerships between students and businesses, developing students’ learning.
- Students are developing an appreciation of the importance of our local industries to the economy and to the people of the region.
- Students are linking education with outcomes in a real world business context.
- Schools and students are seeing education as a partnership, with businesses playing a part in embedding enterprising culture in our young people.
- Students are given the opportunity to develop key competencies that will benefit them greatly throughout their lives such as leadership, innovation, creativity, initiative, and teamwork.
Resources
Technology - Students Creating Wood Products
Students are embarking on a project to develop innovative furniture products from a single sheet of ply without using screws or fixings. The furniture must be able to be flat packed and slotted together easily.
Science - House of the Year
Students are setting about designing a house in a scale model using sustainable design principles ensuring energy efficiency and practicality.
Social Studies & Technology - Animal Safety
Students are assisting with the production of a dog safety resource that can be delivered to children between 8 and 10 years, researching the information and designing material and a short DVD.
Maths & Technology
Students are assisting a local tourism operator to better understand their market by gathering research data and assisting with promotional materials.
These are just a few samples of the great partnership between students and local business, benefiting learning and contributing to a stronger regional community. Students are applying their learning to the real world and business is getting the chance to guide the leaders of tomorrow in their journey into the workforce.
